Hydrotherapy - A Natural Way to Combat Pain in Chester and Wrexham

Hydrotherapy combines our specialist training here at Natural Balance Physiotherapy & Sports Injury with water’s natural qualities to treat and alleviate symptoms and to reduce pain. We specialise in this form of rehabilitation which combines the buoyancy of the water with specific exercises. We design activities specifically to get you back to full fitness following an injury or surgery. We also use the water’s properties to enhance your performance to increase your strength and endurance.

Conditions We Treat

There are many conditions and injuries that hydrotherapy can benefit. These range from musculoskeletal to muscle and ligament injuries; post-surgical rehabilitation including hip, knee and shoulder replacements and knee cruciate ligament reconstructions; ankle and back surgery and post fracture rehabilitation.

Together with low back, thoracic spine and neck pain including sciatica, whiplash and chronic back pain, different forms of arthritis can also be helped which include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Hydrotherapy can even help neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.

Hydrotherapy is therapeutic treatments that can treat the whole body by moving and exercising in water – thereby benefiting from physiotherapy while the water takes the strain. For example, hydrotherapy tends to promote slow, controlled movements and is relaxing.

The water lets your muscles relax and, at the same time, eases the stiffness and pain in your joints, for example. You are then able to exercise while the water supports you and provides resistance so that you can also improve your muscle strength.

Together with improving muscle strength and relieving pain, hydrotherapy can improve general fitness too. The more we build up your strength and stamina, the better you will feel and your confidence will also benefit.

The Nurse and Mother's perspective

"I have worked for the NHS for over 40 years and during that time have witnessed the work of many physiotherapists and thought I had seen the best there could be, that was until Phil Cabral was assigned to our surgery as ‘resident physio’.

Phil's attitude to his work is inspiring. His subject knowledge is exceptional and his professionalism is second to none. Patient feedback is, without exception, positive.

Phil has a truly holistic approach to his treatment, he treats the person with a condition, not a condition that a person just happens to have."
