Our case studies

We are always keen to receive feedback from our clients as to how they think we have helped them and, importantly, whether we could improve at any step during their journey back to full health with Natural Balance Physiotherapy & Sports Injury. See our testimonials page for our latest reviews.

Here, we look in greater depth at a typical situation that Gloria Beyer, one of our long-standing clients, found herself in and how we helped her gain not only a large portion of her health back – but also her confidence.

Background

Gloria Beyer seemed to have an idyllic life. She ran her own business as a travel consultant and travelled the world – to the most beautiful destinations. One day, in 2007, while standing on a verandah in Mauritius, Gloria experienced the feeling that the verandah was swaying from side to side. She soon discovered that she had suffered a bleed on the brain. And that was that. Completely out of the blue, Gloria lost everything – her voice and her mobility in particular.

Google search

“I managed to sell the business, luckily, but found myself in a wheelchair,” commented Gloria. “I realised I needed help and googled physiotherapists in my area. Phil Cabral and the Natural Balance team stood out to me as their reviews were excellent,” Gloria continued.

The instant Gloria met Phil, she knew she had chosen well.

“Phil is adorable and I’m sure Lorna, Phil’s wife and partner in Natural Balance, won’t mind me saying that,” says Gloria laughingly, “he instantly put me at ease and his major asset is that he listens.”

How we helped

Over a number of years, Phil has given Gloria her life back. Through his chartered physiotherapy experience and constant learning to keep up with his industry’s progression, Phil has shown Gloria how to reduce and manage pain; how to walk again; how to improve her balance and, unfortunately, how to get back up safely when she falls over – an unavoidable, ongoing issue from the original trauma.

Phil has also taken Gloria to the gym twice a week for a number of years, to get as much strength as possible back into her limbs and her core. Gloria’s left side has no movement, yet her body can be painful and sore. Phil’s patience and compassion have helped Gloria restore as much of her mobility as possible. Now, Gloria’s progress is such that she only occasionally needs the use of a walker and that is as much to do with her age as her condition. Nevertheless, her progress has been considerable.

“With physiotherapy, Phil has helped to reduce the pain and show me exactly what to do on my own at home. I did put my foot down when Phil wanted to take me to a swimming pool for hydrotherapy treatment though! I am sure it would have been highly beneficial but no, it wasn’t for me,” says Gloria.

The personal touch

“Phil is a real person and cares about the individual. I would not hesitate to recommend Phil and the team at Natural Balance. In fact, I have already referred four members of my family and each would be delighted to back me up as he has changed all of our lives for the better,” she says.

More importantly than anything else, Phil has given Gloria her confidence and positivity back.

“Gloria is a delightful force of nature and I have enjoyed every minute of our sessions together over the past 10 years,” says Phil.

“She has made great progress since we first met and I am pleased that by working together, we have managed to help Gloria return to as normal a life as possible.”
